Meitheal Orchestra

About

Meitheal is a summer school for highly competent young musicians which is held in Ennis and
Limerick every July and over the years has become a rite of passage for every ambitious young
trad performer. This year was Meitheal's largest ever enrollment.
Since its inception in 2004, a large proportion of the younger touring trad musicians have
attended Meitheal and thereby got a taste of the professional performance experience through
working with tutors many of whom spend several months a year on the road. Each year, several
young musicians at Meitheal are awarded performance opportunities at various festivals, as well
as tv and radio slots on the national stations. The orchestra performances are always the highlight of the week.
With the dust barely settled, Meitheal is already gearing up for the annual Reunion show at the
Fleadh. An exciting evening beckons at the Waterfront Hall. Award-winning soloists, the
winning group and special guests will perform. Capping it all, the two Meitheal Orchestras will
perform newly-commissioned suites by Oisín Morrison and Aoife Ní Bhriain which have been
widely-lauded since their first airing in Glór, Ennis and the Millennium Theatre, Limerick in
July.
