About
As the weekend gathers momentum, the Gig Rig presents an exciting bill of legendary and rising talent. Peter Street bring youthful energy and exceptional musicianship, while Mec Lir deliver a signature high octane sound. Breen, Rynne, Murray Trio comprise stellar musicians at the fore of the tradition with performances from the gentle to the rhythmical and all the in-betweens.
Peter Street are an exciting new force in the world of traditional Irish music, blending youthful energy with exceptional talent whether it's lively reels or soulful ballads. The ensemble features Keelan McGrath (accordion), Fionn O'Hanlon (bouzouki), John Paul Reynolds (fiddle), and Simon Crehan (guitar and vocals).
The tempo surges further with Mec Lir bring foot stomping beats to classic trad tunes. Known for their electrifying arrangements, the genre-busting quartet will bring a lively energy to the stage with their tight, fast-playing and huge sound. Their line-up consists of virtuosic Manx fiddle player Tomas Callister, along with fellow Manx musicians Adam Rhodes on bouzouki, David Kilgallon on keyboard, and Scotland’s Greg Barry on drums.
Multi-instrumentalist, Tara Breen and concertina wizard Pádraig Rynne have teamed up with virtuoso guitarist, Jim Murray to form one of the finest performing groups in Irish music today. A regular touring member of The Chieftains, Tara has won almost every All-Ireland title there is to win on fiddle. Padraig is a virtuoso musician, prolific composer and is recognised for his refreshing explorations into the Irish tradition and beyond. Jim has been considered as Sharon Shannon’s ‘right hand man’ having recorded and toured with her over five continents. He has also performed and recorded with artists such as Sinead O’Connor, Steve Earl, Shane McGowan, Altan and Mary Black to mention but a few. Together the trio will bring world-class talent to the Belfast stage.
The Gig Rig will offer performances from 11am to 11pm each day. A full lineup of artists including stage times will be announced soon.
The Fleadh’s Gig Rig daytime programme brings the energy and atmosphere of the fleadh right into the heart of Belfast city centre.
