About
A perfect park in the centre of Bangor and an ideal spot to enjoy the local wildlife and feed the ducks.
Ward Park spans 37 acres in central Bangor and offers a mix of heritage, nature and modern amenities. The park features lakes with wildfowl sanctuary and exotic birds, a children’s playground, tennis courts, bowling greens, and a cricket pitch - making it great for families, sports fans and nature lovers alike.
Recent improvements have enhanced the park for the whole community: a new, larger modern play park near the tennis courts; a Dementia-Friendly Sensory Garden beside the library; and striking wooden habitat letters - creating bug hotels to boost biodiversity while providing fun photo spots.
It also has a chain of small lakes providing wildfowl sanctuary with many interesting specimens and dry pens containing a large variety of exotic birds.
Free live music events take place annually at the Ward Park Band stand every Sunday 3-5pm in July and August.
Sporting facilities are open from Easter - September, seven days a week. Charges apply.

Great Wars Trail
A public air raid shelter still stands in Ward Park, a reminder of one of the raids on the town. Nearby Bangor Golf Club has a print of James Beadle's historic painting of the attack at the Battle of the Somme by the 36th (Ulster) Division on 1 July 1916; it was damaged by shrapnel from a German bomb dropped on the night of 15 April 1941 (the night of a major bombing raid on Belfast). A Second World War pill box can also be found on the course.
